The Heat Is On!

This week, on Team Support and Promote, the theme for this blog post is HEAT. The heat is definitely on here in the Sunshine state, where I live. I hope it is warming up where all my readers live. I chose items that were red, or orange, to represent heat for this theme. If you would like to be featured on this blog, and have an Etsy store, click the Team Support and Promote banner, in the left hand column to visit and join the team. Each item below will have a short description, and a link, for you to check each item out that you just have to buy. Come back next week for another cool theme, with more awesome handmade gift items.

Two Gemstones in One: Ametrine

Next up on my list of gemstones is, Ametrine. Ametrine is a member of the Quartz family of gemstones, and is Purple Quartz or Amethyst, and Yellow Quartz or Citrine, that form together creating Ametrine. Ametrine is a natural forming gemstone, not man made, and is almost exclusively found in Bolivia. There are treatments available to enhance color and quality. a 50/50 split stone is the most prized of all Ametrine. Below is a video from the GIA explaining Ametrine much better than I can. I do not have any Ametrine in my current gemstone collection.

Amethyst the Most Prized Member of the Quartz Family

Oh beautiful Amethyst. As I mentioned, in the title, Amethyst is the most valued and prized member of the Quartz family of gems. Amethyst ranges in color from almost clear, to a deep dark royal purple. The royal purple variety is the most sought after, and valuable. Though a lot of people love the lighter, more lavender hues of Amethyst. Faceted Amethyst is also the most valuable, though again there are some beautiful Amethyst cabochons, and ornaments made of Amethyst. Some collectors love Amethyst in the geode form, as an ornamental piece for show. The most important deposits are in Brazil. Amethyst was commonly wore in early Christian times, by priests, and other high ranking members of the church. It was often worn as an amulet against darkness. It has a hardness of 7 on the Moh's hardness scale, making it suitable for jewelry, but still should be worn with care, especially in rings or bracelets where knocking of the gem may occur. Below are two videos about Amethyst. I did not watch them yet, so I can't say to the quality. Also, you will see an Amethyst ring. That beautiful ring is available in my Etsy shop, and it would love to have a finger to call home.

If you really love the dark hues of Amethyst, be sure and check out the adorable baby set in my Etsy shop, as well.
