Two Gemstones in One: Ametrine

Next up on my list of gemstones is, Ametrine. Ametrine is a member of the Quartz family of gemstones, and is Purple Quartz or Amethyst, and Yellow Quartz or Citrine, that form together creating Ametrine. Ametrine is a natural forming gemstone, not man made, and is almost exclusively found in Bolivia. There are treatments available to enhance color and quality. a 50/50 split stone is the most prized of all Ametrine. Below is a video from the GIA explaining Ametrine much better than I can. I do not have any Ametrine in my current gemstone collection.

Did You Know There Is Peridot In Arizona?

Now don't go running to Arizona to mine for some. It is on protected Native American land. Beautiful, lime green, big pieces of Peridot come out of the ground here. Peridot is the birthstone for August. It is also my birthstone, and I love it. The video below is not all that exciting, but wait until you see the huge Peridot piece found at the end of the video.

Ammonite and Ammolite

I am fascinated with Ammolite, which actually is a trade name for the company that took prehistoric Ammonite fossils, and made them into gemstones they named Ammolite. If you are a collector of gemstones that are truly natural, or organic this gemstone is for you. I do not own any, but I will sometime in the near future. Watch the video it is an amazing creation made by Mother Nature.

Montana Sapphires

There are not many gemstones that actually come from the US. Because mining and production, is so expensive, most companies just stay away from it. Montana sapphires are natural sapphires found only in the state of Montana. They are usually very small in size, and a 1 carat stone is considered huge. They are not treated usually, and are sold as natural gemstones. I love them. The ring is a blue oval Montana Sapphire, about a 1/2 carat. It is surrounded by pink sapphires, not from Montana though. It is sterling silver, and will be available to purchase in my Etsy store soon.

Petit Mauve Spinel and Blue Sapphire Ring

One of my most favorite gemstones is Spinel. Spinel is a gemstone that comes in almost every variety of color shade you can imagine. It is natural, and usually requires no enhancing treatments. The most coveted colors are blue, and red. Blue Spinel is so rare, it sells for thouands of dollars per carat, in its finest form. There is both imitation, and synthetic Blue Spinel on the market. It sells for a very expensive price, but does not seem to have to the value of what you pay for it, though it is quite lovely visually. With a hardness of 8, on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it is a very durable gemstone, and can be worn for every day wear. I do not recommend exposing any gemstones to household chemicals. This lovely sterling silver ring, is a petit size 6 ring. The center gemstone is a 5mmx4.5mm oval Mauve Spinel gemstone. Then there are three Blue Sapphire accent stones. I love this simple, yet lovely ring. This ring will be available to purchase in my Etsy store. If you do not have Etsy, and you would like to purchase through this blog, you can contact me at darien04@gmail.com for details. USA buyers only, and payment with Paypal through the blog.

It is an antique cushion cut, set in a sterling silver setting, with accent Ruby stones on the shoulders. The ring is a size 6, and is available for sale in my Etsy store. The price is 49.99, if you do not have Etsy, you can purchase through this blog by contacting me at darien04@gmail.com USA buyers only, please.

How Is Your Apatite?

Apatite, a greek word for apateo, or to confuse. Apatite is a rare, and gergeous gemstone, sometimes confused with the ever lovely paraiba tourmaline, a very exotic and expensive gemstone. Apatite, is a lovely swimming pool blue color, or sometimes a green color. The blue variety is the most sought after, and commands the highest price. It is known to be included, and clean stones are difficult to come by. It is very sensitive to household chemicals, so everyday wear is not recommended. It is also a softer gemstone, with a hardness of 5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. It is probably not a good idea to set in rings, or bracelets, such as I did, earrings or a pendant is more safe. I love this gemstone, it is definately on my list of favorites. If you dont own an Apatite, it is definately worth your while to have one. The pendant is a quartz crystal bead, wire wrapped to a jewelry finding, with 3 Apatite briolette drops. This lovely pendant is available for sale, and will be listed in my Etsy store, missy69. The ring, is a sterling silver ring, set with a 7mm round Apatite gemstone, with rows of cz accents. The ring is part of my personal collection.
