Tanzanite is a very expensive, collectible, and fragile gemstone. Yet it seems the jewelry trade is replacing Topaz with Tanzanite as the December birthstone. Blue Topaz is the traditional birthstone for the month of December. It is said that all babies born in Tanzania are given a Tanzanite as a birth gift.
