Layaway For Christmas Now

As you can see the Christmas Countdown has begun. I finally got my computer fixed, and will be taking new pictures, to add new items to my Etsy store. I offer a free layaway service, and have had two customers take advantage so far. I have jewelry, loose gems, unique cell phone cases, and handmade purses. There is something for every woman on your list, including a stunning vintage blue diamond ring. Be sure to stop by my Etsy store, and get your items on layaway too. When you check out you have to click other, as payment, and I think then you type in layaway, and the invoice will come to me, for me to set it up for you. You must put 10 percent down, and make a payment with Paypal, at least every two weeks.

What Does A Gem Geek Get For Her Birthday?

My husband is not comfortable buying gemstones for me, so I always pick what I want, and then he gets it. This year I got a 50 carat parcel, that included the gemological tweezers, and this lovely tray with 50 gems jars. This is my whole collection, minus a few that I could not fit in. I have been collecting these for years, and years. A lot of them have been made into jewelry already, and sold, or given as gifts. This is the first I have gotten the little jars, I just always kept them in a soft lined box. They are much easier to see this way, and show off, I highly recommend them if you collect gemstones. I have never been comfortable with tweezers, until I got the gemological tweezers, they really are much easier to use. I am unsure why, but I am an expert with the tweezers now. It took me a long time to get all those stones, in those little jars. I don't have a gem scale, so I am not sure how many carats I have in my collection, but it is quite a bit.

I was somewhat spoiled this year. Usually I just pass over my birthday with no big hoopla. This year my husband, and kids took me to dinner. A bit pricey but it was nice, to not have to cook, and get treated. Plus a new vacuum on the way. I know all you women are groaning at the thought of getting a vacuum for your birthday. But, when we bought our home, it was already 20 years old, and the rugs are just something to wish away LOL. I had one vacuum that worked wonderful, and it died, and my back up really kind of stinks. I am not a neat freak, but I am not a fan of dirt either. So my husband ordered me a new vacuum, and I am actually excited.

What Inspired You To Make Your Own Jewelry?

I like to keep this blog informational, conversational, as well as sharing some of my pieces I have created. So my conversation, for today, is what inspired you to make your own jewelry?

For me, I am not really a crafty kind of girl, but I love gemstones. I started learning about them, and collecting them, about 7 yrs ago. I collected so many, I didnt know what to do with them. I love jewelry, and was given some very nice pieces, from family members that I cherish. As I got older, and really started wanting to buy pieces of jewelry, I noticed how extremely expensive, the more rare pieces are. I love the rare and more exotic gemstones, and refused to pay those ridiculous prices. So I looked into making my own jewelry. While some supplies, especially for standard setting jewelry, are expensive they are cheap compared to retail prices. As I got into it more, I realized that retail, charges at least 6 times more than what they actually paid for the jewelry or the supplies to make the jewelry themselves. That means that 6,0000 dollar engagement ring, you might have, actually only cost 1,000 dollars to make. Wow right, that is what I said. Now I cant always afford gold, or platinum settings, and buying lose diamonds is very difficult, but I can afford silver and good deals on loose gemstones can be found if you look hard. So I started making my own jewelry. Alot of it I have kept, gave as gifts, and some I sell. I love to share ideas, creations, and other info about gemstones and jewelry making.

So that was my inspiration, the simple love of jewelry, and the desire to not pay a fortune for it. So what about you?
