Make it Monday: Black Spinel Ring

I am trying to buy a new ring setting, each month, or bracelet, pendant, etc. I like rings though, so that is what I usually pick. This is not the only item I completed this week. There is a pair of Peridot earrings, some new etched glass wine bottles, and finishing up a crochet baby blanket. All of these items, can be seen in my Etsy shop. I am still working hard to try and do more than one post a week. It isn't that I don't have anything to say, lol.

 The ring below, brand new in my Etsy shop, is a sterling silver, size 6 fancy rope design ring, with a 6mm round, Black Spinel gemstone. Now I say Black Spinel because that is the most likely answer. However, it could be a black sapphire, or even a black diamond. Most of my gemstones were bought in large parcels, of genuine gemstones, and unidentified. I used to test them, but now I simply don't have the time to do so. Do You Love Champagne Diamonds?

I bought this ring with the intention of removing the center stone, and putting another in there. After I got it, however, I loved it and decided to leave it alone. It is a thick, sterling silver ring, with a large champagne colored cz as the center stone. It has accent stones all over the place. This is a bold ring, and the pear shape CZ is 8mmx6mm which would literally cost thousands, in this color, and quality, for a real diamond. I love natural gemstones, but sometimes a synthetic or CZ is a lovely substitute. Especially for the pricier gemstones such as diamonds, or even sapphires.

Emerald and Red Sapphire Ring

This lovely ring is sterling silver, featuring a 3.5mm round Emerald gemstone, as the center stone. Then the sapphires surrounding the emerald are a intense cherry red color. These sapphires most definitely have been treated, as I have never seen red sapphires of this intense red color. It is a size 6, and is available for sale for 39.99 in my Etsy store. Star Sapphire Real, or Treated

Sapphire, one of the most precious gemstones in the world. It has a hardness of 9, making it extremely durable. Most sapphires are treated in some way. Either through heat treatment, diffusion, or other accepted treatments. Star sapphires are a phenomenon gemstone. The star is actually an inclusion, formed by rutile needles which when aligned will form a six ray star. The way the stone is cut, is important to centering the star. There are manmade star sapphires namely Linde Star Sapphires. This star sapphire was sold to me as a loose gemstone, and was sold to me as a natural gemstone, meaning no treatment. The picture was taken under a good light source, so the star can be clearly seen. Under poor lighting, or other than natural light sources, the star looks washed out, and difficult to see. It has good movement, and is not just fixed to center of the stone. It does have very straight legs, which may be suspicious to treatment. I set it in a sterling silver filigree design setting. It is a size 6. I actually have two of these, one I kept for myself. I kept my price reasonably low, in case it is not natural as advertised to me. Even a synthetic star sapphire has value, and is beautiful, and appealing on the hand. If the star has a four legged ray, it is most likely a Star Diopside, not a star sapphire, a collectible, and valuable stone in its own right. SS Citrine With Green CZ's Ring

This lovely ring is sterling silver size 7, with a genuine 4 mm round Citrine as the center stone, with dark, and light green CZ's. The lighter colored CZ's which are the color of Peridot, are all around the citrine. Then the darker green stones go down the shoulders of the ring. If you click the picture it should enlarge. Lovely Peridot Ring Size 7

This is a lovely size 7 sterling silver, with rhodium plating, ring. It features a 7mm round gem quality natural Peridot gemstone. Along the shoulders, in a sort of ribbon design are Signity Star CZ's . This lovely ring is available for sale, in my Etsy store. Peridot has a hardness of 7, on the Moh's hardness scale, and is not recommended to be worn when doing housework, or other harsh work. London Blue Topaz and Peridot Ring

Wow as much as I loved having the give away, it about killed me not to make new posts LOL. I finally have gotten some new settings, and made a few new pieces. I still am working on getting myself together to do some beading projects, and a necklace that should be stunning, I hope.

This lovely sterling silver ring features a 6mmx4mm oval London Blue Topaz, with two round Peridots on either side. These type of band rings, that hold larger stones, for some reason never seem to set easily. I am please with the outcome, and since Peridot is my birthstone, I shall wear it with pride. Lemon Quartz and Orange Sapphire Ring

Sorry ladies this one is all mine. I have not made anything new in a while, the new car is pinching my budget. This is my birthday gift to myself, for next month. It is a sterling silver lemon quartz, and orange sapphires. The lemon quartz is a pear shape, and stone that is a soft yellow, with green hues to it. Like all quartz it is a durable gemstone. Rose De France Amethyst

Did you know Amethyst comes in a purplish pink color. It is referred to as Rose De France Amethyst, and is a lovely purple color, with pink hues to it. I believe that is what this gemstone is. There is also something called color change Amethyst, which I just recently read about, but have never seen one in person. Like all Amethyst, it is a member of the Quartz family, natural in color, and has a hardness of about 7 on the Moh's hardness scale. Purple is a color of royalty, one of the reasons Amethyst is one of the most popular gemstones on the market. It is affordable, and can be found in large quantities all over the world. I prefer this color of Amethyst over the deeper, darker purple Amethyst. However, everyone has their own taste, and jewelry should be purchased for the way it makes you feel when you wear it. Petit Mauve Spinel and Blue Sapphire Ring

One of my most favorite gemstones is Spinel. Spinel is a gemstone that comes in almost every variety of color shade you can imagine. It is natural, and usually requires no enhancing treatments. The most coveted colors are blue, and red. Blue Spinel is so rare, it sells for thouands of dollars per carat, in its finest form. There is both imitation, and synthetic Blue Spinel on the market. It sells for a very expensive price, but does not seem to have to the value of what you pay for it, though it is quite lovely visually. With a hardness of 8, on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it is a very durable gemstone, and can be worn for every day wear. I do not recommend exposing any gemstones to household chemicals. This lovely sterling silver ring, is a petit size 6 ring. The center gemstone is a 5mmx4.5mm oval Mauve Spinel gemstone. Then there are three Blue Sapphire accent stones. Montana Sapphire and Pink Sapphire Ring

The ring setting itself is a sterling silver, with pink sapphires. Then I set the Montana blue sapphire in the center. Both the blue sapphire, and the setting were not originally joined together. I had an Alexandrite in the setting, but I just never really liked the look that much. Then I put my Montana Sapphire in there, and it is a perfect look, the blue, and the pink together. This one is a part of my personal collection, and I have been known to frequently move my stones from setting to setting until I find what I like best. I do not do this with the items I sell, because it does come with risk of scratching the stone, or breaking prongs. I love Montana Sapphires, they are almost always natural in color, and they come in a huge variety of colors. They are never very large, so a big stone might be a 6x4 oval.

Yellow Labradorite and Ruby Red Ring

For those of you who have followed this blog, for a while, have seen me post about the Andesine/Labradorite scandal that went on last year. This is Yellow Labradorite from Mexico, and is the true natural form of the gemstone. It is a member of the Feldspar family, and is truly unique in that it is crystalline clear with a soft yellow color, and even a hint of peach undertones. It is an antique cushion cut, set in a sterling silver setting, with accent Ruby stones on the shoulders. The ring is a size 6, and is available for sale in my Etsy store. Interesting SS Dragon Peridot Ring

This is an interesting sterling silver ring, for those who love Mythology and Folklore. It is a dragon, and a fine quality 7mmx5mm oval Peridot gemstone. Peridot is the birhtstone for August. It has a hardness of about 7 1/2 so you do have to be careful when wearing it. Lovely and Simple Rhodochrosite Ring

Rhodochrosite is a lovely pink gemstone. It is almost always found in cabachon form, but recently has been available in faceted form. It is very pricey, and expensive, in faceted stones. This lovely Rhodochrosite is 5.5mm round cabachon, from Argentina. It is a lovely pink color, with very little if any banding noted. It is set in a sterling silver simple ring setting, it is a size 6. Rhodochrosite has a hardness of only 4 on the Moh's hardness scale, every day wear is not recommended. Emerald and Green Sapphire Ring

This sterling silver green Sapphire semi mount, was purchased from one of my favorite Ebay suppliers. He does not stamp all his settings 925, but I own several of his settings, and they have never tarnished. I hand set the lovely 3.5mm round Emerald into the setting. The surrounding stones, are mint green Sapphires. It is a size 5, and I must say I love it, definitely one of my favorites. It will be available for sale in my Etsy store, or you can buy it here, and get free shipping, and 5 dollars off of list price. Emerald is the birthstone for May, and is a very durable gemstone.

SS Green Labradorite/Andesine Ring

I have blogged about Green Labradorite/Andesine before. You can check my archives to see the full detailed article. I bought two of these lovely gemstones, a while back. I have set them both in rings, the second one I have not taken a picture of yet. It has a very unique color, and some have color change properties to them. It is not a natural gemstone, in that it is bulk diffused to get this color. The green is more rare than the red. I do not have any red, or at least not to my knowledge. I do have some cherry red gemstones, that I got in a parcel, but they could be Madagascan Garnet. This is a sterling silver filagree design ring. It is a size 7.25 It is available for sale. If you are interested please contact me for details. Of note the Yellow variety of Labradorite is the natural form that this gemstone comes out of the ground in. If you do not yet own any Yellow Labradorite, I recommend getting some.
