What Is Your Birthstone?

Every now and then, I like to share videos about birthstones. I am always amazed how many people don't know what their birthstone is. For the month of December, the traditional birthstone is Blue Zircon, a rather expensive stone. Turquoise was added to the list, but Blue Topaz is often used in place of the Blue Zircon, due to its affordability. Blue is the most popular color gemstone in the USA, according to a report I read. When you watch the video below, not only does it show you the traditional color of your birthstone, but other colors the stone comes in. For example Zircon comes in all shades from white to black, and in between. So does Sapphire, for September, Diamond for April, and even Amethyst comes in both purple and green. The only one I kind of don't like, is the March birthstone, depicted in the video. The birthstone for March is Aquamarine, which is of course a beautiful blue color gemstone. In the video he shows other members of the Beryl family, such as Morganite and Goshenite, which are pink and white gemstones. They are not Aquamarine. Aquamarine only comes in shades of blue green, and blue. Other than that, I loved the video. I forgot to say, that a few years ago Tanzanite was also added as a December birthstone. Good luck getting a good quality, as well as good price on one of those. Don't forget to check out my Ebay store, select items on sale right now, and my Etsy store.  My Etsy store will mainly be for made to order items, but I am still going to have a small inventory of on hand items as well.  If you know of something you want, and think maybe I could make it, contact me.

Blue Topaz and Turquoise

If you were born in December your birthstone is the Blue Topaz, or alternately Turquoise. The original birthstone, for December, was Blue Zircon. But due to it's very expensive price and rarity for getting it, Blue Topaz has replaced it. Did you know that blue is the most popular color in America? Watch the videos below to see both of these beautiful gemstones.

White Gold Blue Zircon Earrings

If you were born in the month of December, then you probably know your birthstone is Blue Zircon. You are very lucky. Blue Zircon is one of the loveliest and very collectible blue gemstones. It is fairly expensive as well. You can substitute Blue Topaz, which many people do, due to it being much more affordable to Zircon. Check out the lovely earrings below. Wouldn't these make a lovely gift for a December baby?

December Birthstone Blue Zircon

I thought it was Blue Topaz for the month of December, but I guess the official gemstone is Blue Zircon. Since Blue Zircon is rather expensive, and hard to come by, Blue Topaz is often used as a substitute for those born in the month of December.

Blue Tourmaline And My New Refractometer

Well I got my refractometer for my birthday, and I love it. I do have to say it still does not clarify for me 100 percent what the stones are but does help me narrow it way down. This one I set in this lovely ring setting, after realizing it is a blue tourmaline. I am certain it is tourmaline. Under the gem refractometer the refractive index number was 1.62, and it is doubly refractive which eliminates topaz which is trichroic not dichroic. It does have typical inclusions of tourmaline, and a small chip on the edge of the stone. Because of that this beauty will stay in my personal collection. It could possibly also be an Apatite which has a RI of 1.632 but it absolutely stayed at 1.62 with no range even with the polarizer lens on. So I am leaning towards tourmaline. I have all but eliminated blue zircon because the RI of zircon starts at 1.80. This is all very new to me, and it is a lot to learn, remember, and can be very confusing as well. So far I have only been able to identify positively about 15 stones, four I looked at need more testing, and I have so many more I can not even tell you how many.

Sale Blue Topaz and Blue Sapphire Ring

It is already the end of March, and I have not posted a thing about Aquamarine. Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone for March babies. This ring is listed as a Blue Topaz, because I am unsure if it is Aqua or blue topaz, so I go with the more obvious. I say that because an Aqua of this size would be very pricey, and it came in a parcel, so while it could be an Aqua, the chances are slim. If you can not afford an Aquamarine of this size, then blue topaz could be an alternate for you. It could also be a blue zircon, again not sure. At any rate, this beautiful ring is now on sale in my Etsy store, go by clicking right here. Sale price 34.99 will be 49.99 after April 4th. Don't miss out on this awesome ring, I only have one.

Blue Topaz and Blue Sapphire Ring

This sterling silver, size 5 1/4 ring features a large round Blue Topaz gemstone, with four of the loveliest blueberry blue sapphires on either side. The center stone is a whopping 9mm round, that is pretty big. This could actually be a blue zircon, but I am thinking blue topaz because of the size. It is a real, natural gemstone. Blue Topaz, and Blue Zircon are the birthstones for the month of December. If you are interested in this piece, it is for sale in my Etsy store. I offer combined shipping, and a free layaway service, so check all my beautiful pieces. Christmas is coming you know.

December's Birthstone Blue Zircon

Blue Zircon is the birthstone for the month of December. Some people use Blue Topaz, as an alternate due to the difficulty in finding Blue Zircon. There are some who also use Tanzanite, as a universal birthstone. Below is a short, but cool video, all about Blue Zircon.
