Every month I try to share a fun video, or two, about the birthstone for that month. August is the Peridot, and my birthstone. I love Peridot, especially a fine lime green one. It is such a lively and beautiful color. Most gemstone will come in a variety of colors, not Peridot. It will always be green. Peridot may have more yellow, or a darker green, but it will never be red, blue, or purple. Peridot used to have more value than diamonds, thanks to the Egyptians. Enough from me, though, watch the video and see for yourself. After, you can check out my Etsy shop, to see if I have any Peridot available for sale. I do, lol. I hope to get more done soon. I have some pretty pear shape Peridot, just haven't had the time to get it made into jewelry.
Change is good! I have reopened a new Etsy Pattern store, called the Pink Flamingo. I have a ton of inventory to list, and could take a while. I am looking at some other new creative endeavors that have more to do with teaching. My kids are growing up, and it is time to expand my wings. Join me in this new creative adventure!

A Video About Amethyst
Amethyst is the birthstone for February. It is a beautiful stone, that comes in a variety of hues from light purple to the deepest of purples. It can also be found as a green variety, called Prasiolite, which is very light Amethyst that has been heated to a beautiful mint green color. Most Amethyst is very light colored Citrine that has been heat treated.

Mother's Pendant/Family Pendant Gemstones in Resin Custom Order
I have used up all my resin, except for a tiny bit to finish off pieces. I saved my favorite projects for last. I was a little skeptical about whether I should put real gemstones inside resin. I have been collecting gemstones for almost ten years. When you buy in large parcels, as I frequently do, you get a lot of stones that are not good enough to put in regular jewelry castings, but in other projects they are fine. This piece will remain mine, as it is the birthstones for my family members. There are two rubies, a peridot and an emerald. Now why would I put an emerald in resin? Emeralds are very fragile, and when I tried to use this particular emerald in a traditional casting it cracked. So, it was unusable, basically. But, I kept it because the color is amazing and it is my daughter's birthstone. I only have that one emerald. The rubies are small, the smaller the stone the harder it is to set in traditional settings, and I own so many peridot it isn't even funny. Anyway, this will be listed in my Etsy store as a custom order only. I think this style is lovely, but the donut shape mold would be nice too. I do not yet own that mold. If you are interested in having one of these made, please contact me through my Etsy store for details. Prices will vary, as some gemstones are not as easy to get, and are way more expensive than say a Garnet or Amethyst.

Blue Topaz and Turquoise
If you were born in December your birthstone is the Blue Topaz, or alternately Turquoise. The original birthstone, for December, was Blue Zircon. But due to it's very expensive price and rarity for getting it, Blue Topaz has replaced it. Did you know that blue is the most popular color in America? Watch the videos below to see both of these beautiful gemstones.

All About Citrine
I have gotten a bit off track with this blog, mostly because of being busy, and some because I have been promoting my Etsy store so much, and others stores too. Now, I am going to be selling my items directly from this blog, and my Facebook page. So, if you are someone who is interested in beautiful, affordable gemstone jewelry, one of a kind Art work, or crocheted gifts, then check back when I begin selling on here. I will have a Paypal cart for easy buying. I have actually been selling my handmade gifts for like ten years. This is a sort of new way of doing it. I will be going back to some of my roots of this blog, as well. My love of beautiful gemstones and jewelry, and the info I love to share.
Citrine is the birthstone for November. The original birthstone was Imperial Topaz, a very rare and expensive gemstone in its natural form. So, Citrine was adopted as the birthstone for November. This is the first time I have used a video from the company below. One thing I don't necessarily agree with is that their supplier does not always know if the stone is heated or not. I think they have to disclose that to you, but I could be wrong when it comes to beads. Natural, unheated Citrine, is a very very pale yellow and is not popular among jewelers to use.

Diamond Birthstone Alternative
If you were born in the month of April, then you have one of the most expensive birthstones, the diamond. Diamonds are beautiful and I love the colored ones especially. But, they are very expensive as well. If you can't afford a good sized, clean diamond, but would like something to represent your birthstone then this White Topaz ring, pictured below, might work well for you. It is available in my Etsy shop.

Ruby The July Birthstone
Are you a July baby? Then you are the proud recipient of having the Majestic Ruby as your birthstone. One of the most coveted, and expensive gemstones in the world, and only one of 4 gemstones considered a Precious Gemstone. Watch this short video, and learn all about your birth stone. My son's birthstone is a ruby, as is my husband. My daughter is an emerald. I am the only one that has a reasonably affordable birthstone with a peridot.

Citrine The Sunshine Gemstone
That is not an official name for Citrine. It is just what I think of when I see Citrine. Citrine has a hardness of 7, on the Mohs Hardness Scale, and is somewhat brittle internally. Due to this care needs to be taken, when setting, or wearing Citrine. Most Citrine, on the market is heat treated, to enhance the color, and usually has a slight red tint to it. Natural Citrine, is a very soft lovely yellow color. Citrine, can range from a soft yellow, to a deep golden yellow color. Each of these rings below, were made by me, and are available for sale, in my Etsy store, missy69. Citrine is the birthstone of November.
