Make It Monday: New Etched Glass Pieces

As promised my new Ebay store is open. It actually made me use from my old shop name, from years ago, Melissa's Menagerie of Stuff. That is way too long, so I changed it to Melissa's Handmade. I wanted Missy69. because that is the hashtag for my Etsy shop, but someone already had it taken.

 The first theme for January, is birds. Below you will see the beautiful etched glass vase, with hummingbirds, and a rose. This came out so lovely. Great Valentine's Day gift. It is available in my Etsy store. 

 The other item was actually started a couple of weeks ago, and I finally got it finished. It is a set of 5 mason jar style jars with nautical items etched into the glass. These are also quite lovely, and would make great decor for a nursery, camp, bathroom, etc. They are available in my Ebay store.

Updates!

I really have to get back to a regular blogging routine. Both this blog, and my homeschool blog have been severely neglected. Some of it is just from the busyness of life. Some is because I was very ill for a lot of January, and some is because I am trying to do inventory, remove old products, and update images. I will never remove my gemstone rings, no matter how old they get. They are one of the most popular searched items in my shop, and my biggest sellers. They are stored well, and taken care of. However, other items go out of style, or out of date. Updating my shop with new pictures, tags plus keywords, takes a really long time. Plus, I would like to get at least one video done for my shop, just can't decide on what I want to do it on, and of course squeezing it in with everything else.

 I have started creating some new pieces, jewelry, wood burned, etched glass, and maybe some new crochet projects. I really want to learn to hand sew, just for small projects like reusable napkins, bibs, etc that would be convenient but still be good for the environment. I hope readers have been checking out the Polyvore sets I have been sharing. I try to do one a day, and share them everywhere. Such a nice way to make a treasury of beautiful items, from different sellers. If you haven't seen any yet, scroll down to see a few. I will be making some sets using the new Spring color pantone, such beautiful colors.

 Below is a new pair of earrings, just a couple of weeks old. I really dislike making earrings, lol, and I have no idea why. They are not hard at all, just always something I just don't want to do. This pair, done in lilac purple glass beads, and lime green acrylic beads, on sterling silver fish hook dangles, are just lovely. Simple enough for wearing to work, and lovely enough for evening wear too. Perfect for Spring, Easter, Mother's Day, etc. There is a leather wrap matching bracelet too. I Love Hummingbirds!

I have said before that painting nature is one of my most favorite things to paint. It is also one of my most frustrating things to paint, since I want my painting to look exactly like whatever it is I am painting. This is sometimes very difficult. I did one hummingbird painting, a few years back, that I love, but now I have drawn out two matching hummingbirds, on two separate canvas. They will be sold together, in my Etsy shop, once I get them painted. We have a hummingbird feeder, and I think the most I have had at once is three. They are so much fun to watch, and if they get used to you they will just stay there and let you watch. Some people even get the privilege to feed them from their hand. I would love that! I probably won't get a chance to paint them until next week, but that is ok. In the mean time I will watch videos to get their colors embedded in my brain.

 I also drew out two new wood burning projects. One for Mother's Day, that will be here before we know it, and another tree of love, that I absolutely love because the flowers look like Shamrocks. I didn't get it done in time for St Patrick's Day, but if you are Irish, or love Irish symbols, this piece of work will be special. Be sure to check back to see it, should have them done tomorrow.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas #1 and What I am Working On Now

It will be Mother's Day before we know it. So, I am will be featuring gift ideas for Mom. May is an extremely busy month, here at my house. There are four birthdays to celebrate, Mother's Day, and District Events for 4H. It will be very busy, lol. I will be featuring items I made, and maybe some other Esty sellers. I will do two, or three posts a week, up until Mother's Day. If I get a good response I might do Father's Day as well. So, to start it all off, I am featuring the upcycled tin can planter painted yellow with a little girl silhouette pushing her baby bunny in a stroller. This will come with a plant.  I finally got to do some crocheting done. A product I have not shared yet, but will shortly, that will help decrease cleaning products in the landfill. Stay tuned for those. But, we painted, and did some other home repairs. Now, I need new curtains, and bathroom accessories. Instead of buying new ones, I am going to make my own. Yep crocheted curtains, and bathroom accessories. Don't worry I will let you see how they come out. It might take a while though, I am almost out of white yarn, and not sure when I will get to Walmart again in the next few days.


 On Friday, I also got to draw out three new pictures for painting.  I am hoping to get at least one of them done tomorrow evening.

Two Group Challenges This Week

I have two group challenges this week, and I think I am going to paint them both. Last week I was invited to join a new Facebook group for art lovers. It is a Zentangle group, and you have to recreate ancient pieces of art work. I have never painted a Zentangle before, but you can see mine below. I almost forgot the tangles, so I added them to the flowers and cattails. This weeks challenge has been posted, and I can not wait to work on it, and add some more tangles this time.

 The second challenge is for my All About Blogspot Etsy team. This is the second month I have created a monthly blogger challenge for the group. This month the theme is pink, in honor of Mother's Day. I am not going to say what mine will be, but I am thinking it will be Art. I might make a whole bunch of pink things. I love the color pink!

Lilac Mother and Child Silhouette Hand Painted Gift Bag

I love it when I get a couple of days to just be creative. I try to work on a project at least every few days, but to have some time to just be creative, ooh I love it.

This is my best silhouette yet, and I think her face need to just be a little rounder, maybe, lol. It is hard to paint lips on a silhouette, I will have you know. Mother and Child Silhouette Candle Jar

This is my first attempt at the mother and child silhouette. I hand paint this on a recycled jar. There is pink and white daisies all around the sides of the jar. It is signed and dated, and will be listed in my Etsy store. Get yours for Mother's Day. I will send a candle with the jar, but the jar does not have to be a candle. You can use it for whatever you wish. You could store all kinds of things in this jar. I will be making more of these in different colors and styles. Large and In Charge Amethyst Ring

This is my moms Mothers Day gift, made by me. She has been telling me for some time that she wanted an emerald cut amethyst ring. I purchased the lovely 10mmx8mm emerald cut amethyst, from Fire Mountain Gems, they have some of the finest amethyst around. Then I had to find a setting, that was no easy task. I should have found the setting first, then bought the stone. At any rate, this lovely sterling silver, with rhodium plating, ring had a huge, and lovely clear CZ as the center stone. I removed the CZ and added my Amethyst to the setting. This can always be tricky, as you can damage the prongs, but I am quite good at it now. You see the results. It is a heavy ring, with a heavy silver weight. I hope she loves it. Happy Mothers Day, mom. SS Faceted Black Onyx Rope Design Earrings

These are sterling silver Black Onyx post earrings. They are 10mmx8mm oval faceted genuine Black Onyx gemstones. They are a good size, but not too large, and do not have much of a dangle to them, so they could be worn in professional settings.
